There is no Deer Hunting in the City. Poaching is illegal!!

Poaching is illegal in the City of Granite Shoals. Any kind of hunting or discharge of a firearm is illegal. The city is conducting a very strictly regulated deer management program, and these are the only hunters allowed to discharge arrows in the city limits. These 7 hunters are registered with the Police Department and are participating in the deer management program at assigned times and at specific, secluded locations. Please report any deer hunting activity you observe. Poachers will be prosecuted.

The Pilot Program for deer management is a program organized by the Wildlife Advisory Committee which organized, selected, trained and monitor the volunteers who participate in this program.  The program is archery based deer management, antlerless (no fawns and no trophy bucks) program to reduce the population of the urban deer to hopefully a healthier size herd.  The archers are chosen from licensed hunters with additional bow hunting safety training and additional proficiency and written test completion.  The selection process is very rigorous.  The hunt sites are ten sites which are in the city limits and known to the archers and the property owners.  A few sites are on city owned property, but these locations are not city parks.  The Chairman of the Wildlife Advisory Committee presented a report on the first month of the Pilot Program to the City Council at their Regular Meeting on November 8, 2016.  You can read these meeting minutes when they are posted on the website.
