Internet Posting Requirements 2026 Elections


The City Secretary serves as the Election Administration Official for City Elections. City Elections are conducted in accordance with the Texas Election Code. The regular City Election is held annually on the first Saturday in May as required by the Texas Election Code. All municipal elections are publicized in accordance with the Texas Election Code.

The City of Granite Shoals contracts with Burnet County to conduct elections.

Mayor and Council Seats

The City of Granite Shoals is a Home Rule City with a Council-Manager form of government. The City Council consists of a Mayor and six Councilmembers who are elected at large under a place system. Each Councilmember occupies a place on the Council and is elected by plurality from all candidates running for the place by the qualified voters of the City.

Candidate applications will be accepted beginning January 14, 2026, and are due by February 13, 2026, by 5 pm.

Term Information

Each member serves a staggered two year term, thus three of the members are voted on one year, with the remaining members, including the Mayor, elected the following year. Term limits are in place, which means the Mayor and Councilmembers may serve for a maximum of three consecutive terms. Terms served as Council Member shall be considered separately from those served as Mayor; however, no person shall serve more than six consecutive terms as Mayor and Council Member.

Candidate Qualifications

According to the City of Granite Shoals Charter Section 5.02 a candidate for an elective office shall meet the following qualifications:

  • Shall be a qualified voter at the time of the election for which they are filing;
  • Shall have resided within the corporate limits of the City, or recently annexed territory, for at least twelve (12) months prior to the filing date;
  • Shall not, at the time of filing or while in office, be in arrears in payment of taxes or other liabilities due the City after the expiration of thirty (30) days following the providing of notice of any delinquency; (D) No candidate may file in a single election for more than one elective office or position;
  • No employee of the City shall continue in such position after filing for an elective City office; and
  • Shall comply with all other City ordinances and/or resolutions that may be applicable.
