Summary

 The Parks Maintenance Technician is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of parks, recreational areas, and city facilities within the City of Granite Shoals. This position ensures that all public spaces are safe, clean, and aesthetically pleasing for residents and visitors.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

1. Grounds Maintenance:

   - Mow, trim, and edge lawns and open spaces.

   - Prune trees, shrubs, and bushes to maintain health and appearance.

   - Plant and care for grass, flowers, trees, and shrubs.

   - Remove weeds, debris, and litter from parks and public areas.

2. Facility Maintenance:

   - Inspect and maintain playground equipment, picnic tables, benches, and other park facilities.

   - Perform minor repairs on park structures such as restrooms, shelters, and fences.

   - Ensure proper operation and maintenance of irrigation systems.

3. Safety and Compliance:

   - Ensure all parks and facilities comply with local, state, and federal safety regulations.

   - Report hazardous conditions and potential safety concerns to the Parks Supervisor.

   - Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.

4. Equipment Operation and Maintenance:

   - Operate and maintain various types of groundskeeping equipment, including mowers, trimmers, blowers, and hand tools.

   - Perform routine maintenance on equipment to ensure it is in good working condition.

5. Community Interaction:

   - Provide information and assistance to park visitors.

   - Work cooperatively with community groups and volunteers on special projects.

6. Miscellaneous Duties:

   - Assist with the setup and breakdown of city events and activities.

   - Perform additional duties as assigned by the Parks Supervisor.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience 

High school diploma or equivalent.

Previous experience in groundskeeping, landscaping, or park maintenance preferred.

Skill/Ability To:

  - Knowledge of landscaping techniques and grounds maintenance practices.

  - Ability to operate and maintain a variety of landscaping equipment.

  - Basic carpentry, plumbing, and electrical skills.

  - Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  - Good communication and interpersonal skills.

   -Valid Class C Texas driver’s license.

The employee must be able to see clearly, with or without vision correction, in close situations, at a distance, and peripherally, and be able to adjust focus.

The work environment requires that the employee exercise caution at all times and adhere to safety standards to avoid the risk of personal injury. The employee is exposed to outdoor elements, loud noises, vibrations, and respiratory hazards such as dust, gases, and chemicals. The employee frequently is required to work under time pressures to meet deadlines, to perform multiple tasks simultaneously, and to work closely with others as part of a team. The work environment is noisy and distracting.
