The Municipal Court of Record in Granite Shoals’ mission is to provide an impartial, unbiased, fair and respectful forum administer justice.

The Court hears Class C misdemeanor criminal offenses and city ordinance violations occurring within the city limits.  These offenses include traffic offenses and violations of the Texas Penal Code, Texas Health and Safety Code, Texas Alcoholic Beverage Code, Texas Education Code and Granite Shoals City Ordinances.

The Court is the city government’s Judicial Branch, and is a state court hosted by the city, operating pursuant to article V, section 1 of the Texas Constitution, the Uniform Municipal Courts of Record Act in chapter 30, Texas Government Code, and the Texas Code of Judicial Conduct.  The Court and its officers are dedicated to the principles of impartiality, fairness, equality, integrity and judicial independence.

Initial Appearances

For any initial appearance dates provided in any citations, the defendant shall contact the court, preferably, by telephone (830-598-2424, ext. 705) or in person by the date set in the citation or order.  If you receive a court summons to appear in a City Code Case, you must appear before the court on the date and at the time set on the summons.

If your situation allows you to resolve the matter without appearing in open court you may pay the fine, ask for compliance dismissal, request driver's safety course, or request a deferred disposition.  The Court will consider voluntary payments made in FULL by mail, at the City Hall Drop Box (Please NO Cash), in person at City Hall, or paid online through the City's Website as an appearance.  Mailed payments must include the Traffic Citation Reply form that you received with your citation, or you may download the form here:  https://www.graniteshoals.org/home/showpublisheddocument/1487/637522615169600000

It is important that you appear on or before your assigned Court appearance date. A telephone call does not constitute a Court appearance, except for initial appearances set on a citation.

Regular Court dates are on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of each month.

You may pay your fines and fees online.

Payments in person are accepted at the City Hall offices between the hours of 8:00 am - 5:00 pm Monday through Friday excluding holidays.  For after-hours convenience, there is a secure drop box located in the parking lot in front of City Hall. You may place payments (Please No Cash) or documents in the drop box. Please make sure to provide your name, date of birth and citation number on any documents or correspondence.

LOCAL RULES OF THE GRANITE SHOALS MUNICIPAL COURT OF RECORD

IT IS ORDERED that the following Local Rules of the Granite Shoals Municipal Court of Record shall apply to all cases and proceedings the Court:

Attire at all Court Proceedings.

The following attire is unacceptable for appearing in court:
A. Swimsuits, shorts and cut-offs;
B. Muscle shirts or shirts without sleeves;
C. Clothing with offensive, vulgar, racist, sexist, obscene, or suggestive words, slogans, depictions, or pictures, including grotesque creatures;
D. Clothing that is dirty, torn, or ragged;
E. Clothing that is too tight or too short, or immodest; or
F. Hats, bandanas, and sunglasses (excluding religious headwear).
All attorneys and Pro Se defendants appearing in Court shall dress in appropriate business attire.
